Spring 2012 Fashion Trend: Brights

by Jo-Lynne on March 22, 2012

The following post is from Jo-Lynne of Musings of a Housewife:

After several years of muted tones being the fashion trend du jour, I’m delighted to announce that the biggest fashion trend this spring is brights!

It’s about time, right?

If you’re nervous about wearing brights, here are some quick and easy tips to wearing the trend without looking like a circus clown:

1. Pair brights with neutrals.

The collage I put together above is fun and all, but when you’re putting an outfit together, it’s hard to make several bright pieces work together (although it can be done.) But I recommend combining brights with other neutral items, at least at first. Take a look at this outfit. I’m a huge fan of red jeans right now.

2. Accessorize with brights.

Too shy to try wear a bright top or pants? Dip your toe in this trend by putting one bright accessory with an otherwise ordinary outfit. Take for instance these green shoes. The rest of the outfit is fairly neutral, and the shoes pop.

Or try a bright scarf.

3. Go big or go home.

If you really want to do it right, go for a bright colored dress. This makes a great statement, and all you need to do is add a few neutral accessories, and you’re good to go!

I am LOVING the brights.  Most of my clothes are thrifted; so I know to be on the lookout for spring.  Have already picked up a few pieces to add to my work wardrobe.  It’s fun being ‘trendy’ while saving tons via thrift stores.

I need to get better about thrifting. I need someone to give me a lesson!

I love that these are trendy because I’ve been wearing bright colors since elementary school. I love bright colors in general, so they spill over into my wardrobe naturally. All four outfits you put together are gorgeous, but I would expect nothing less from you, Jo-Lynne.

The second outfit really made me smile because our favorite children’s librarian has been sporting a pair of hot pink flats with her neutral outfits for a few weeks. It’s such a fun addition to an otherwise drab ensemble. And it makes me want a pair of hot pink flats. :)

Yeah, I definitely need a pair!! I  have orange flats, but no other bright colors. I usually wear silver. But then I carry colorful handbags, and I feel it is usually one or the other, ya know?

I LOVE this trend!  I just went to Goodwill and picked up two pairs of red pants & have the bright blue ones from Old Navy…all of it is just lovely.  I love colors! =)

FUN!!! I have red jeans, and I wear them ALL the time. Royal blue are on my list.

Awesome looks to try out! :) Loving the idea of using one color that “pops,” even with just accessories. Thanks for the tips!

Yes, that is my favorite way to wear brights. :-)
