It’s amazing how much friendships have changed simply by introducing technology to the mix. Where before I mostly had friends from my local area, I now have close friendships with ladies from Pennsylvania, Kansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Maryland, West Virginia, Alabama, and North Carolina. Through technology, I’ve gotten to know these ladies better than some of the people I see on a weekly basis.

There was recently some talk in the Skype group that Mandi and I are part of…wouldn’t it be fun if our kids got to know each other too? We didn’t necessarily want to turn them loose on Skype, but we did want them to enjoy the experience of having friends from all over the country. So we decided to go the old-school route of pen pals. Our kids are all completing a printable pen pals introduction form and sending a copy to each of the other kids in the group. After that, they can casually write to someone from the group from time to time and enjoy getting their own mail in the mailbox.

Do you have friends who live far away? If you want to try your hand at a pen pal project with your kids, download this introduction template to get them started!

Years ago I saw a sign up form displayed at the cards section in Wal-Mart to get a pen pal.  On a whim I did it, and made a wonderful friend from Australia.  I loved that but alas as time went on, our letters were sent or received less and less until we just didn’t write anymore.  Now my daughter who is 9 is very interested in the pen pal idea, and I would love to find someone for her to write to.  I’ve spend today looking at different places online and was shocked to see most of them charge $5 and up to join!!
Do you have any suggestons of where I might get her a penpal?  Thanks! Vonda

A penpal from Australia? How fun!! We decided to go the route of someone we knew who lived far away. Do you know anyone who’s moved?
