ways to say I love you

source: jmscottIMD

While some people demand or expect certain things on Valentine’s Day, I’ve never really looked at it that way. For us, it’s always just been an extra special day to celebrate our love.

You see, Sean and I started dating just weeks before my 17th birthday and broke up later that same summer. Over the months that followed, we spent time just focusing on our friendship and fell in love in the process. On Valentine’s Day in 2000, he surprised me with a dinner cruise around the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD, and we were officially back together (and the rest, as they say, is history in the making!).

These days, Valentine’s Day might just mean a quiet dinner after the girls go to bed, some shared chocolate and a small gift, but it’s a sweet reminder to take time to really appreciate each other.

This Valentine’s Day, take some time to show the people around you that you love them. Here are 87 ideas to get you started, and I’d love to hear what else you’d add to the list!

To Your Kids

To Your Wife

To Your Husband

Teachers

Friends

Strangers

What else would you add to this list?

Great list! I don’t like the commercial part of it all. We don’t do anything that special because we try to keep a monthly date night, but at MOPS this year, we made a “message in a bottle”. =p

    • http://lifeyourway.net Mandi @ Life…Your Way

What a fun idea, Joyce — I love that!

  • Teresa

I have a set of older knives that desperatley need to be sharpened!

  • Melinda M

I have a mish-mash of knives…a couple of which are good. I haven’t sharpened them and probably should.

  • O4jules

We bought a set of knives when we got married, without knowing the benefit of owning a really good knife. Now that we know, we wish we’d really made an investment in the purchase instead of just getting a set to get us by.

  • http://mananddog.wordpress.com Nathan Atkinson

We have cheap knives and I don’t even think we own a sharpener… I have seen ceramic knives before but I was always skeptical like you. These would be awesome!

  • http://mostlyfoodandcrafts.blogspot.com/ Danielle

Our set is so old, I couldn’t even tell you when we got them. I would love to win this.

    Danielle

  • Kara Fleck

We have a set of knives we got for a wedding gift 11 years ago, but my husband (the main cook in our family) has been asking for a set of ceramic knives for some time. What an awesome giveaway!

  • Judy

Ugh we have been using the knife set from wedding gift 11 years ago…and have never sharpened.

  • Tealady32000

Have h ad my current set forever! They aren’t sharpened periodically even though I know dull knives are more dangerous to use. Would certainly love to win these!

  • Melissa

We registered for quality knives when we were married over 5 years ago. I like them, but we just moved and I left behind our sharpener — which means my knives have now gone dull and there’s nothing I can do about it. Seriously sad. I’ve been curious about these ceramic knives, too, so this would be a great chance to check them out!

  • Petejessnewland

My husband has been bugging me for months to invest in a nice set. But I just hate spending the big bucks on knives! I did recently purchase one pampered chef knife to try. It’s good. Just the entire set is ridiculously priced! So I use the one knife all the time, just keep washing it. I’d love to try these ceramic ones and see what they are like!

  • Suzanne

Well, currently, I am using an Old Hickory wooden handled set that we were given as a wedding gift in 1987. The handle just broke on my slicing knife the other day. I also have some small paring knives that I use. I believe it may be time to get new knives. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1231630316 Alicia Hansen

We are currently using a mismatched set of Cutco knives. We don’t ever sharpen them.

  • Miranda

We have medium quality knives that we need to sharpen! Would love to try a new kind.

  • sam

well they were an investment at the time, Chicago Cutlery when when first got married, um, 18 years ago….but I think they need to find a new home!

  • Tammy

I have a set of wiltshire stay sharp knives.. They are the main ones I use, but we also have a set in a wood block that came with some pots we bought once. I don’t like using the real sharp knives around the kidlets.. I am always scared that they will get cut!!

  • Mary

I use a set of knives I picked up at our local Sam’s Club Warehouse store. They are Wolfgang Puck knives. They are ok! I am not “wowed” by them. They are decent and do their job.

I have seen the commercials for the ceramic knives and feel the same way about them. Very skeptical! I have been looking into a new set of knives.
I will take your recommendation to heart and consider the ceramic knives set.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! :)

  • Luckyme51

I have a Rachel Ray knife that I love. I have never had an expensive set.
I dont know about sharpening knives and have never heard of ceramic knives.
It would be nice to try them out.

  • http://twitter.com/smilo143 milo johnston

I have sabitier knives and they are very dull. I have not thried ceremic so this would be great if i won! Thanks :)

  • Katlyngibson

We received a Wusthof knife block set as a wedding present 17 years ago. They are getting are really dull after all of the sharpening I have done over the years! I would LOVE the ceramic knife!

  • Maggie

My current knives are nearly all hand-me-downs, except for one lovely little Henckels paring knife.

  • Karla

I have a cheap set that I never sharpen- I have never tried ceramic knives but would love too!

  • Erica Reed2010

I have a set of Pampered Chef knives and one ceremic knife I got while stationed in Japan with the military… I LOVE my ceremic knife and would love more!

  • Retrievin

We have an inexpensive Kitchen Aid set. I would really love a decent set of knives in our kitchen!

  • http://www.athankfullheart.blogspot.com/ Miranda @ A ThankFULL Heart

I got a decent knife set as a wedding gift and I always reach for them. They are about two years old and so far I haven’t sharpened them. I’m rather a cheap skate if I do say so myself ;) .

  • http://www.organizedchaos-lisa.blogspot.com Lisa Cantrell

My knives are pretty much odds and ends that I collected from hand-me-downs from my mom or my husband already had before we got married. I recieved one Pampered Chef knife that is in a sleeve with a built in sharpener for our wedding 10 years ago. I used to have a Pampered Chef pearing knife that just dissapeared one day a while ago….So I have 3 knives to be exact…plus my steak knives that I use to slice stuff up because they have been known to cut better than my carving knives…lol! I would love the chance to win ceramic knives…..they sound amazing!!

    ~Lisa

  • Alan

I am using my parents old knives.. A collection a various knives that have made their way into our family. Some are fairly sharp. like the bread knife that never has an opportunity for use… home made bread is rarely made in this household..

And ceramic knives sound promising. I’d love to try them out on a good steak or, if one is a filet knife, then on a salmon.

  • Emashedj

I bought an expensive set of knives a few years back and have been sadly disappointed. I am trying to find a good quality set to investing. I heard about these and was curious to try them but am having a hard time talking myself into ordering them in fear that they will be just as disappointing.

  • Adespain

No knife set! Just random stuff, I’d LOVE a knife set!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000043857184 Brittani Goodpaster

I have the same cheap set I got when I first moved out. It has a block with sissors that have been through hell and back, three long knives including a bread/cake cutting knife, and six steak knives. If the four of us have dirtied those six knives, its time to do the dishes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathy-Newsome/571496784 Kathy Newsome

I would love to try the ceramic knives. I’ve never been able to invest in an expensive set of knives and have always had the knives that come in the “block” of wood. I love to cook and a great set of knives that actually cut the food would be awesome. As for sharpening them…I use the knife sharpener on the back of my can opener when I really need to. Bad job it does too!

  • http://mothering4.com Jeri Nowlin Shaffer

We are still using a set we got as a wedding gift nearly 15 years ago! The blades frequently slide out of the handles while in use. I know I should throw them out, but I don’t know how to dispose of them without endangering the sanitation crew so I keep them around & try to use them. Crazy, I know.

  • Gemma

We have a set of older knives, but I have been looking out for a new set!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Cappi.Wheeler Susan C. Wheeler

I have 3 main knives I use regularly for years. My 2 main are a Cuisinart for most chopping and slicing. A Chicago Cutlery long knife I used to use before I got the Cuisinart. I still use it for slicing and cutting meats mainly anymore, and a CC paring knife I have had for years and love it. I have others, but the handle is a nice fit and the blade is a perfect length. I do have a Tupperware bread knife I use occasionally. And yes, I sharpen mine regularly.

  • BobbeyM

We have 2 cheap sets of the wooden block knives, one is about 8 years old, the other almost 18 years old. None of them have ever been sharpened and are horribly dull, but I don’t know how to sharpen them myself and it would cost too much to get it done by someone else. My husband wants to invest in ceramic knives that we’ve gone to an all organic, home cooked lifestyle, but they’re way out of our price range right now. It’d be super awesome if we got these!

  • erica

I have an older set of chicago cutlery that hasn’t been sharpened since I got married! what a great giveaway

  • Michelle

We absolutely invest in good knives. I use my Wustoff Santuko knives the most. They fit my hand perfectly. I have looked at ceramic knives and would love to get them. Do you find they are too dangerous for older children? I heard they are screaming sharp!

I do think it is key to keep good knives sharp! We have a Chefschoice 110, recommended by Cooks Illustrated. Works great. Thanks for the chance to win

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1517716493 Vicki Chinn

I’ve never had a new set of knives, the ones I have are a mixture of my mom’s and one new Pampered Chef knife. One of the knives came from a chicken plant so it can be sharpened. I would love to try ceramic knives and I would count it a blessing to have a new set of knives.

  • Lucy

I’ve been curious about these knives. Love the chance to win!

  • Jennifer D.

We bought a new set of 3 knives three or four years ago. They are one of the Food Network chef’s brand. I have been very disappointed in them. One of them works great, but the other two are disappointing. I have never sharpened them.

  • Scott

I have one chef knife, one paring knife, and steak knives that I use for everything else. Terrible, I know.

  • http://twitter.com/LibbysLibrary Elizabeth T. Neas

I have a couple of so-so knives – middle of the road. I really need some sharp knives, because I have problems with my hands.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

    libneas[at]aol[dot]com

  • Jenna_maho

I have nice knives but I don’t get them sharpened enough. Right now they won’t even dent an apple skin. Uggg!

  • Debbie

I have a fairly decent set of Henckels knives that I use and try to get them sharpened once a year when a cookware store offers it for free. But I would love to win these for my mom, who desperately needs new and sharper knives!

  • DeLynn

I have two Victorinox knives that I really like—but would love to try the ceramic ones!

  • Caroline

I hve not tried ceramic knives. I have an old inexpensive knife set that needs to be sharpened.

  • http://momforhim.blogspot.com MomForHim

We have a set we got as a wedding gift 10 years ago–it’s been sharpened once.

  • sharon

Mine are mismatched and cheap. I’d love something better!

  • Shris

I have a couple of Chicago Cutlery knives I picked up on clearance from a housewares store–a chef and a slicer. I also have an old filleting knife that was my mom’s, a cheap bread knife from walmart, and a couple of other bits and pieces.

I have a few different hones, but none of my knives have ever been professionally sharpened since I got them home. I have a few stones and a diamond-coated doodad that is flat and bar-shaped like my stones. I use those from time to time when the edges get really bad. I also have one of those weird ceramic bars in an X type of hones, it only seems to help if you cut it like you’re really trying to cut into the ceramic–hard..

  • Sarah M.

I have a block set from Cutco that was a shower gift. Ten years later, I’m still happy with it. I’m embarassed to admit I have never sharpened my knives, although the paring knives really do need it.

I would really like to try out ceramic knives!

  • Rachel K Gray

I currently have a knife block set of Ginsu knives that we received as a wedding gift. I’m not impressed with them, to be honest. I don’t use them much and have never sharpened them…maybe that’s my problem. I have seen the infomercials for ceramic knives and I agree, they sounds gimmicky, but so enticing. I’d love to try them.

  • SouthernGalThoughts

I have a cheap set. Always have had cheap ones. They’re so bad I have to saw through things most of the time or use my serrated stainless steak knives!

  • Braelyn

I am a student, so it’s all hand me downs (takes inexpensive set to a whole other level, eh? lol!), but I have very much appreciated these gifts from friends and family and wouldn’t have made it without their generosity. This post has actually inspired me to now remove two of knives from the cutlery drawer and my home that are actually completely useless. Of the remaining 4 the larger knife started to rust about 4 months ago, but is still decently sharp so I haven’t had the heart to get rid of it. I wonder if there is a way to safely remove the rust? I should google this! :o ) My knives are not sharpened regularly, as I cannot afford it, so I just use a little extra force to cut through things. Haha! =D And no I have never tried ceramic knives, but love the idea of ceramic knives and would love even more to have the opportunity to try them out!

  • Catherine

I have a cheap set that drive me crazy, but I recently invested in a Henckels chef’s knife. I do sharpen it occasionally. Would love to try the ceramic knives!

  • Bianca

We have a few good ones and some of medium quality. We sharpen them regularly ourselves. I have never tried ceramic knives.

  • Kimberly

I use the steak knives from our cutlery set. I’m desperately in need of some quality knives!

  • Cyndispot

I have a mid-range knife set I guess – Chicago Cutlery. It came with a knife block and one of the things we do to help keep the knives sharp is that we put them in the block upside down. then I’m not always running the blades on the block as I put them in and out. BUT they need to be sharpened more regularly.

Having had 3 knife sets in less than 10 years (this set included and this is the first “nice” set I’ve had) I’m doubting they stay sharp for any length of time.

  • Savesum

I have a set we received from a family friend of mine as a wedding present 22 years ago (it was actually regifted from their wedding a few months earlier – I found a partial tag in the box from whoever they received it from!!)

They are a cheap, very low end set with serrated blades. The blades are set in plastic handles, no rivets – but they have served us well all these years. I think I’ve broken 5 out of the set of 12 various knives. So not too bad! But I will be looking for replacements eventually.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1562850582 Elleta LaVerne Wilson

I had been needing new knives for soooooo long…so about a month ago I purchased a set of Chicago cutlery. My sister had a set that I had used many times and loved them. She very seldom had to sharpen them. Well, I spend my time before using these knives to sharpen them. They did not come sharpened evidently, and I must sharpen each one before I use it. It’s a good thing I got the built-in sharpener.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1182762510 Kimberly ‘Harris’ Moteberg

Well, the knives we have, we received in a block set from Target for our wedding 9yrs ago. I guess they’ve served us well over the years but this last year, we have to sharped them pretty much every time we use them. Sad and irritating.

  • Crystal

I have a few cheap knives that need sharpening. Also I’ve never tried ceramic knives, but I am very interested!

  • Angela B

These sound amazing! We have the cheapest and lowest quality knives ever! They were a block of knives purchased from Wal-Mart for under $40 about 10 years ago. Some of them are rusted and they are very dull.

  • Melissa B

When we got married we were given a set of knives that mu husband’s aunt got off a TV infomercial. They are all serrated and cannot be sharpened, but need it badly! I used a ceramic knife at a friends house and I am hooked! Great giveaway!

  • Lisa

I have some inexpensive set we bought at Walmart. I do not sharpen them often. I would love to try ceramic knives! I have drooled over them but couldn’t justify the money since I have knives at home already.

  • Lindsey

We use an inexpensive set that I got from a depatrment store on sale. They’re nice, but we’ve worn them out.

  • veggiemom

I don’t have a knife set…just a few random knives. I would love some good quality knives, even though I’ve never, or even heard of, ceramic knives.

  • http://www.itsgravybaby.com/ Whitney

I actually like our Miracle Blade set, but I’d love to try these out too!

  • Deb

we have a decent set of Henckels but thanks to various visits from MIL who sticks them in the dishwasher when i am not policing, the handles are cracked off in places. So many things in my kitchen need replacing after 10-12 years of use, but this is a tight year for us so i would love to win these knives (so frustrating when you cook with bad knives IMO)

  • Katperr11

I have a cheap set now.

  • Katherine

We have a mixture of knives on the cheapish side that aren’t any part of a set. I would love an actual matching set of nice quality knives.

  • Hsmom7

I have a set of Chicago cutlery and they are good knives but my set is old. Some are very old from my grandmother. They have lasted a long time, though. I don’t sharpen them very faithfully.

  • Sharon

My knifes are cheap set that didn’t cost much, the ones I use a lot are the set I got by attending a singles class, I could really use some new knifes, thank you so much for doing the contest.

  • MichelleH

We have a set of Pampered Chef knives, but I would love to upgrade to ceramic.

  • Mt

I have a cheap set from ikea now. in would love to try some other ones

  • Amy

I have random cheap knives that I would love to replace!

  • Erin

I have a set of Calphalon knives that I’ve had for a few years. I really like them, but I’d love to try out a set of ceramic!

  • Jori Bates

I have a couple cheap sets, plus a 3-piece henkel set I got as a wedding gift. I sharpen the henkels occasionally. I would love to try the ceramic knives…they intrigue me!

  • http://impressyourkids.org lmilla

very cool! I’ve always wanted to try ceramic knives… We have a combination of a couple different sets – we inherited dh’s bachelor set when we got married, and have pieced together a couple nicer knives to add to the set, including an amazing one I won last year in a blog giveaway!

  • Mommynem

We have a cheap set, never sharpened. I sure could use some nice ones considering all the fruits and veggies we cut every day! Thanks!

  • Amanda H

Our set is older. In need of a new one. Never tired ceramic, but seem interesting.

  • E Ringwald

I have an old cheap set, plus 2 used knives from my husbands work (he works in a restaurant). It’s kind of sad using these sad knives with all the cooking (much of it gourmet) that I do…We lost our sharpener in a cross country move and have yet to buy a new one…I have not tried the ceramic knives yet, but we’ve been talking about buying a set.

    • Brenda Anderson

I too have a very cheap set of knives plus an assortment of odd and ends!! I try to sharpen them when I can, but when I’m in a hurry, I just won’t take the time. I’ve never tried ceramic knives, but like to try.
      B. Anderson

  • Ljpettingill

Most of my knives are inexpensive. I have one that is medium expensive and I reach for it most of the time. I have read of ceramic knives and would love to try them out in my kitchen.

  • Kate F.

I am using a 10 year old set of knives my dad gave me for Christmas. I’m sure they were a middle of the line purchase. They are in desperate need of sharpening, but I haven’t done anything about it.

  • Wendi

Our current knives are very, very old. I usually use my Pampered Chef knives {the ones that come with a cover}…I love them, but they are definitely in need of sharpening :) These knives look great!

  • Sam

I have a set of inexpensive knives that are dulling quickly! As newlyweds, we just don’t have the funds to purchase a new set, but I’m using them for as long as I can!

  • http://www.girlfriendlifeline.com Tpdval

I sure would love to try a ceramic knife! I have a mix of expensive and inexpensive knives, but somehow after a few months they lose their edge and I can’t ever seem to get it back – I guess my sharpening skills aren’t very good. My brother once brought me a beautiful knife back from Japan, and once it dulled I took it into a shop to get sharpened where they pretty much ruined it. I haven’t had great luck with steel knives – perhaps ceramic is the answer!

  • Kristy

We have a set of Chicago Cutlery that we got for our wedding, 9 years ago. I loved them at first, but now they seem to need to be sharpened all the time. I’d love really good new ones, but just don’t want to spend the money. I’ve never heard of ceramic knives and would love to try them!

  • Tfisher83

I do not have a full set of knives. I have a few from Pampered Chef that you can sharpen as you withdraw them from their sheaves, and a leftover bread knife from a set we got as a wedding gift 15 years ago. I would love a good set of knives!

  • Angiew

    Ohhh, I would love these!

  • Jennie

I have relatively inexpensive knives, which I never sharpen. The only exception is my chef’s knife, which was more expensive and I have my dad sharpen when we visit (he has a grinder machine that does it perfectly.) I’ve never tried ceramic knives, but I would love to.

  • Sarah M.

We have a set that we registered for at Target when we got married 4 years ago. They weren’t very expensive and aren’t very sharp. I do not sharpen them as regularly as I should. I’ve never tried ceramic knives but they sound absolutely heavenly! :-)

  • http://talesofamommymonster.blogspot.com/ Sheena

I just gave away a set that was too long for me, and I have a set that is the right size but I can’t seem to get them sharp enough. :(

  • Jnbabb

I hate my knives. HATE. they are awful and cheap. I would love to try these!!!!

  • Krissa

My current knife set leaves much to be desired…it was an inexpensive set we got when we got married and I would love to upgrade!

  • Amanda Gray

My knives are a combination of cheap and handmedowns! Most are dangerously dull, my husband keeps throwing them in the dishwasher, or they need to be thrown away because they have started to rust…I need new knives!

  • julie

I don’t think the knives I have could ever count as a knife set!

  • Tami Nelson

We use an inexpensive 8 year old set from Target that we received when we got married. They came in a butcher block. The handles are all cracked from going in the dishwasher. My favorite peeler is a cutco one that we received for a wedding present.

We have never sharpened them, I wouldn’t know how to!

I have never used a ceramic knife but I like how they wouldn’t brown produce when I cut it!

  • Jenny

I started off with a 15yo set of Henckels knives and have updated it over the years with gifts from the parents. We’re *terrible* about keeping them sharp though. Sometimes when my Mom comes over she’ll sharpen them for me!

  • http://www.manylittleblessings.com Angie @ Many Little Blessings

We use a really junkie set that we bought cheap at Walmart many years ago. We have a bread knife and one decent knife as well. We have to wash the one decent one all the time because that’s the one we want to use most.

  • Leilani

We have a set of inexpensive walmart knives. And I just broke one the other day….doh.

  • http://twitter.com/CaySedai Carol Foltz

My knives are crap. I buy cheap ones, and never sharpen them, then wonder why they don’t cut very well. Except the really sharp little cheap paring knives that cut really well, especially my finger if I’m not careful.

I’ve never used ceramic knives, but I would like to.

  • Angie

Currently I have 3 knives. 2 were expensive Pampered Chef knives and one was a cheaper version just from the store. My chef’s knife from Pampered Chef has to be sharpened before EVERY use or I notice the difference. I’ve never used ceramic knives, but since I keep hearing great things about them, i may have to invest in some. I hand wash all my dishes anyway, so that wouldn’t be a factor with the knives at all.

  • Dani Tollemache

I have two small knives just bought from the local store for 2$ each. We are getting married in 5 weeks and it is his first house and my first in 4 years so a nice pair of ceramic knives would be amazing. We don’t have a sharpened either

MY mother is always talking about these knives – she is a cook. I haven’t used them myself yet

  • Susan

My knife set is 37 years old we got them when we got married. They need to be sharpened. Susan steveac@bellsouth.net

  • JD

Our Knife set is a mish-mash. We have a few nice Heinkle knives and some cheap ones. We sharpen maybe once year. We haven’t tried the ceramic yet.

  • http://twitter.com/ncheapskate Northern Cheapskate

We have a variety of knives in our house – the majority of them are from a Chicago Cutlery set we go when we got married (10 years ago) or from Pampered Chef. All of them are in desperate need of sharpening!

I’ve never tried ceramic knives, but I’d love to have the chance! Since I’m cooking from home more, I have learned that good knives are essential!

  • Linda

I have a set of chicago cutlery knives, nice set, but I would love to try ceramic knives

  • Fiona

I have an old trusty, but not yet rusty set of kitchen knives. They are a Finnish brand, and have served us very well. The only problem is that they always need sharpening, as we are keen cooks. I would love to win a set of Shenzhen ceramic knives, as they look very practical

  • http://twitter.com/elishadew Elisha Dew

I don’t even know where my current knife set same from. I think it was my husband’s before we were married. Most of them have rust spots, which means I use the same 1 or 2 knives all the time. They have never, to my knowledge, been sharpened, because my husband doesn’t think to do things like that and I am afraid I will cut off a finger. I don’t think we even have a sharpener.

I’ve really been wanting to try a ceramic knife!

  • Lucidlotuslife

I have an old and cheap knife block that I’ve had for maybe ten years?! The blade on the chef’s knife has a flat handle with no ledge so it is painful to press down on it. I have never sharpened them and have never used ceramic. I keep meaning to buy a new chef’s knife at the least but never get around to it as I don’t really know what to look for. I would love to have some new ones to try out:)

  • Jraaf11

We have mostly cheapo knives, but my husband got me a pretty nice Santuko knife for Christmas that I really like using.

  • Natalie

I’ve got one good Calphalon knife my husband got me for my birthday. I simply wash it every time. It would be nice to have more than one to choose from!

  • Claire

My knives are so old. I don’t even know where they originally came from. Needless to say, I need a new set lol.

  • http://seasonedjoy.com/ Sheila

I have a set of knives that I received as a wedding gift & they’re ok. They’d probably be better if I sharpened them more than once a year or so.

  • Michelle

We have an inexpensive set we bought years ago. We have supplemented with a few more knives, also somewhat inexpensive. We don’t sharpen nearly as much as we should. I have never tried ceramic knives.

  • Cmlenahan

I have either cheapies or my cutco set. Love the cutco but am afraid to wear them out!

  • Kim

I do not own a good set of quality knives, so I would love to win these to have a chance to use a knife of good quality.

  • http://thejoyofivf.blogspot.com Rebecca @ Unexplained X2

I really hope this ends on 3/21…or else I’m REALLY behind on my reading! I have a good set of knives, rarely sharpen them, but need to get better at it. It’s so much nicer cutting with sharp knives.

I’ve always wondered about ceramic knives…great giveaway!

  • Kam A

I use a very inexpensive knife set and they aren’t the greatest. I have never sharpened either.

I know nothing about our current knife set– husband does the cooking, so he picked them out. He recently recieved a yoshi blade as a gift after a year of heavy-handed hints, and so he’s all about the ceramic knife craze. I’d love to win for him.

  • Jschwartz805

I bought my sister a ceramic knife set and used one at her house. I loved it. The knife cut through the tenderloin effortlessly and I really wish I had one for myself.

  • Rmfowler

Currently as a college junior I have not be able to afford a nice knife set. My current knife set consists of 30+ year old knives from Grandma, a knife or two I bought at walmart (pairing knives), and butter knives for everything else. Might not be glamorous but it works!

  • Kstina61

I have a few random knives. We moved overseas so I got rid of my knives and when we got back, I just bought a few. I have two that I like, but it’d be nice to have some that actually cut well! I cook all the time, but alas, my knives are pathetic.

  • Mrsnataliemore

We have a strange assortment of knives… some nice, some cheap. My husband is a chef so he keeps ours sharp. Ceramic knives would be fun to try :)

  • Andrea

I have a good set of knives, but I don’t keep them sharpened, so maybe I should consider switching to ceramic so they’ll stay sharp longer!

  • Lori Lee

My daughter has the worst set of knives ever and she has decided to let me teach her how to cook. The knive really make every kitchen task more difficult. I would love to get her a new set of knives so that she can experience the joy of cooking.

  • Tiff715

I have a good quality knife set but I don’t sharpen them like I should, and Im not really sure how to sharpen a knife correctly

  • Cristy

I have a have missing set of cheap knives that I got shortly after the wedding. I don’t sharpen them and I have never owned a quality knife in my life! I’d like to try a ceramic knife.
    Thanks,

  • Jenny

I have 2 Pampered Chef knives, that have the the sharpening cases. Other than that are knives are el cheapo! Walmart, Dollar Store, even some garage sales ones. We need some good ones, but not in our budget.

    • Jenny

apparently I can’t spell today *our* knives

  • Jessica L

I have a set that was a wedding present, but is by no way a fancy set. I have a sharpener, but have not sharpened them ever (we have been married for almost 2 years). I have not tried ceramic knives, but with my increase in cooking lately, I am sure I would love them :)

  • Beth Radesic

I have an old, cheap knife set that is so dull I think that my butter knifes might be sharper! I’ve had them for years and sharpening doesn’t even seem to help anymore-I’d love to win the ceramic knifes-I’ve always wanted them and my steaks will thank you!

  • Saime

I been using the Tupperware Chef series knifes for almost 10 years and at first i was blown away how well they worked for me, ofc i had to sharpen them regularly which was annoying! Now i am totally annoyed by them, my sharpener broke (totally used up!), cant put them in the dishwasher and alone the thought how much money i spent on them!!!!
    Time to try something new

  • vickie

when my hubby and I married he had nice knives and I had a group from pampered chef, target, etc.. We do sharpen sometimes

  • April Campana

We own all the Pampered Chef “self sharpening” knives and they didn’t last long at all. I have to sharpen them myself on a regular basis. I am highly disappointed as they were not an inexpensive purchase.

  • http://www.notenoughdevotion.blogspot.com Gretchen

We have a set of knives we got for our wedding. However, we don’t sharpen them because we don’t know when we’re supposed to! I haven’t used ceramic knives but would love to after reading about them!

  • Dawn

Truthfully, I don’t have a single good knife in the house. I have been frustrated at cutting up anything lately. No, I don’t sharpen them because I’ve never done it before and don’t have the equipment.

  • Annette

What knife set. :D I have one good knife it’s a j.a. henkles twin four star 10inch chef knife and I love it.

  • Amanda

I see ceramic knives in the store all the time, but like you I’ve thought it was just a gimmick! I would love to win this giveaway (heh, who wouldn’t?!) but even if I don’t this is the nudge I needed to give in a buy a set. Thanks!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1275861925 KateandBill Blevins

We have knife set from Target (Henkels), I think. It’s great when my husband sharpens them. Otherwise, I use knives that I bought from a RADA fundraiser. NOw that I’m cooking more, I see the importance of a good sharp knife.

  • Sara

Our knives were actually given to us as a wedding gift years ago. They are not the best, but we make do. I do try to sharpen them every few months. We have never tried ceramic knives

  • Sarah P

I have a mid-priced set, after using cheap knives all through college I wanted nice knives but they just haven’t been in the budget yet. Maybe someday!

  • http://lambaround.blogspot.com Lamb

I’ve never tried a ceramic knife, but I’ve been in the market for a new set of knives for quite some time. My current set, KitchenAid, is horrible! They’re actually covered in rust! I imagine that would be a great benefit to a ceramic knife :)
    lambaround at gmail dot com

  • Bernice

I could use a good set of sharp knives right about now. We just moved to the other side of the world and had to buy some knives quick. Not a lot of thought was put into it which I regret now, every time I try to cut raw meat. Never heard of ceramic knives though!

  • PatriciaD

I haven’t ever tried to ceramic knives but guess I should at least give them a try, huh!! Thanks for the info…and I have not invested a whole lot of money but do have some nice knives from Pampered Chef that store in their own little cases which also container a knife sharpener in each so I sharpen about ever third time I use a knife.

  • Wendy W.

My knives are a hodge-podge of ones I saved up to buy and others that I bought in a pinch just to get me by. I’ve been curious about ceramic knives ever since I first heard of them – unfortunately, living in a tiny little town, I haven’t even been able to see one, much less get one in my hands! Thanks for sharing the information :)

  • K_Grady

I’ve never tried ceramic knives. I bought a KitchenAid knife set during a Black Friday sale so I’m on the fence about whether they are the best quality KitchenAid knives. I need to get better about sharpening my knives as required vs as needed. (I did learn and practice not to put them in the dishwasher)

  • Tippett51

My set is not ancient but I find I am sharpening frequently with somewhat poo r results. I wonder what it is like to have a really sharp knife like the pros.

  • Ellen S.

I have a set of 13 year old wusthoff knives that I received as a wedding present. I haven’t taken good care of them and they’ve never been sharpened. So, I guess I’m not surprised that when I try and cut something it becomes a mangle-fest.

  • Asimonis2000

I have 3 Pampered Chef knives that come in a “self sharpening case” that doesn’t quite get the job done – Bertha is the giant chef’s knife, and the slicing and paring knives are unnamed. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law also gave us a chef’s knife a few years back that gets way more use than Bertha.

  • Rebekah

I have a set of Wusthoff knives that we received as a wedding gift 2 years ago, however, I have been compelled to buy random knives b/c they are at best mediocre.

  • MamaAcorn

We have a few Henkel 4-star knives that we’ve collected one by one over the years. My husband sharpens them every few months. I’ve melted the handle on one and now I’m wishing for a bigger chef’s knife.

  • Allison

I have medium-quality knives, but I’ve started to cook a lot more so I’d like to upgrade my set. I have a sharpener, but I don’t use it as much as I should.

  • Kimberly M

I have three small Pampered Chef knives and they are better than the 20 year old knife set I inherited but it is hard for me to justify the expense of a quality knife set.

  • http://www.malisaprice.com Malisa Price

I have a mix of good knives & lame ones. I would love to try the ceramic ones!

  • Missy June

I have old, low quality knives – would be THRILLED to have something updated!

  • Josh

I have a set of expensive Henckels that require sharpening every couple of uses. I bought a cheap pair of ceramics, and haven’t touched the Henckels since… Unfortunately, the ceramics I use are inexpensive and already falling apart. Looking to get a quality set, since I cook every meal from home due to an extremely limited budget.

  • Suzanne

My husband and I have a 16 year old set of Chicago knives and he sharpens them regularly as they are so old and worn. We have been hoping to be able to invest in a quality set like you are giving away This would be such a wonderful gift for me to give him for his birthday which is coming up soon. He is the cook in the family. Love your blog!!

  • hollymade

We have a set of inexpensive knives that we got as a wedding gift 8 years ago. We’ve added to that with a couple good quality knives, but hope to one day get a really nice set!

  • Nicole

I have a 4 year old santoku knife that I use every day for almost everything. It needs to be sharpened, but still does the job. Every other knife in my drawer is crap. I haven’t ever tried ceramic knives but have heard great things!

  • SarahRS

I have an assortment of not-so-great knives. These would great!

  • Teresa

I don’t have a knife set. I have one chef knife and some cheapy steak knives from Walmart. My husband sharpens the knife often and I have not tried ceramic knives.

  • http://readytowait.com Emily at Readytowait.com

I have a mismatched set of knives which I have sharpened once or twice a year–always once right before Thanksgiving (which of course guarantees I will be cut myself on Thanksgiving Day :-)

  • ACMommy3

I have an assortment of knives, mostly inexpensive, but am looking for a new set. I do have one great knife (more expensive than my others) that is awesome, a Cutco knife I use for almost everything. And I’m not very good at sharpening. :)

  • Elizabeth

I have a set up cheap knives that I don’t really like. The hubby didn’t want to spend much on knives. I would love to have nice knives one day.

  • http://www.bitoffruitcake.blogspot.com Danyelle

I think my knife set is mid quality. My grandmother got them for us a couple Christmases ago.

  • Katie

My current knife set is non-existent… :(

  • Kelly Tillotson

my husband and i actually recieved a really nice set of knives when we got married. but we had a honeymoon baby…and we actually exchanged the knives for a crib/nursery set. we did what we had to do–but ive been using cheap knives ever since and they’re kind of a nightmare. would love to have some decent knives to cook and prep with!!!

Thanks for all the great ideas Myra! I love opening my windows on a spring day, especially when its raining…LOVE the smell of rain. I also love vintage flower teapots, flower embroidered tea towels, and watering cans with fresh tulips or daffies tucked inside the center hole for spring decorating and centerpieces. For a touch of whimsy, I scatter vintage Peter Rabbit pieces, wooden painted birds, chicks, and ceramic/resin rabbits here and there for my kids and guests to enjoy.

I love that rug in the second picture! I am not sure it would hold up in my house, but I still love it!

Wonderful ideas! I particularly like the idea to declutter before decorating! It’s sooooo important!!! LOVE it!

Love flowers!! I love to get vibrant flowers from the Farmer’s Market each week.
